The American Corner Osijek, as the first of the American Corners in Croatia, was established at the City and University Library Osijek in May of 2005. It was opened by the former ambassador of the United States of America, Mr. Ralph Frank, former rector of the J. J. Strossmayer University of Osijek Mrs. Gordana Kralik and former director of the City and University Library Osijek Mr. Dragutin Katalenac.

ACOs is designed as a multidisciplinary collection of City and University Library Osijek, a small library decorated in American style launched to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation between the Republic of Croatia and the United States of America. ACOs seeks to ensure availability of books and information in English language about history and culture of the United States for users and visitors, to introduce them with the opportunities of visiting, working or studying in the United States, encourage learning, getting in touch with modern technologies and sources of information, and to pursue personal development. The ACOs collection is in English language and most of it refers to American literature, history, politics, law, art and music.

US donation for the expansion was of special significance for renovation and equipping American Corner Osijek in 2015. The space of the former Media Centre and Youth Club has been redesigned into a modern multimedia space that becomes a multifunctional platform for public diplomacy programs, promoting open dialogue and building bridges of understanding.
